In 2024, 10 different N5 LTU cars took part in 22 events in Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Finland and Portugal. They were driven by 17 different drivers from Lithuania, Estonia and Poland. In total, more than 5,000 kilometers were covered only in competitions. 9 drivers made their debut with the N5 technology this year.
The 2024 season of the Lithuanian N5 family began as usual with the counting of the first months of the year, and the first outing was one of the more distant ones. Two crews headed to the distant Arctic to visit Santa Claus – Linas Vaškys with Laurynas Paškevičius and Tomas Šmagarys with local racer and coach Kristian Sohlberg. While Tomas’ drive ended with him braking too late and getting hit a huge snowbank, whereupon the Hyundai i20 N5 was too badly damaged, Linas and Laurynas had to find their way to the finish line with the help of the local flora, digging out the Škoda Fabia N5+ with the help of small trees. Later, the winter action was moved to Lithuania and Latvia. At the Alūksne Rally, Eugenijus Sladkevičius covered almost all the kilometers with the Škoda Fabia N5+, and later the trio of Eugenijus, Aurima Eidžiūnas, who sat next to Ervinas Snitkas, and a guest from Estonia, Jaak Tammeka, who drove the Lithuanian Ford Fiesta N5, gathered for the Lithuanian Auto Rally Sprint Championship event in Zarasai. Eugenijus made it to the podium, Jaak finished sixteenth, and A.Eidžiūnas, who drove well, unfortunately, finished the rally in the ditch. Vaidotas Paškevičius still had time to jump on the departing winter train, who, after renting the Ford Fiesta N5 from Darius Biesevičius and co-driver Dalius Strižanas from Giedrius Notkaus, took part in the Sarma Rally in Latvia. There he climbed onto the podium in his class and finished ninth overall.
While the roads of Lithuania and the Baltics awaited the road-drying spring, Martynas Samsonas sent his Škoda Fabia N5 to Portugal by teaming up with Ricardo Domingos, who received the car at his base and made sure the car was prepared for Martynas gravel rallies of the Portuguese Promo Championship. The first event at the legendary Fafe special stages was greeted by torrential rain. The excellent result in the qualifying stage was due to the regulations of the Portuguese rally, which denied the Lithuanian a high starting position, immediately destroying any chance of a result. Not only that, the stone in the way ended the Lithuanian crew’s race. The second event took place in the very south of Portugal, in the Algarve, and a very different kind of special stages awaited them there, where, despite some issues, they managed to win the promo championship and remain in ninth place in the overall Portuguese standings. The third event – Ralli Vieira do Minho, which Martynas had already won. As in Fafė, it rained here too, but that did not stop the Lithuanian from taking his second victory in this rally. On this happy note, Martynas’ season in Portugal came to an end and the Škoda Fabia N5 was sent back to Lithuania.
After the end of Portuguese affairs, the rally soon returned to Lithuania. There, the summer season was opened in Visaginas, where 5 N5 cars started. The most interesting thing was to see how the newcomers to the class, brothers Irmantas and Edvinas Buivydas, would look when they got into the Ford Fiesta N5. It was clear from the first few kilometers that the newcomers would immediately be in contention for the LARČ5 title. There was another interesting N5 debut at the LARČ season opener in Lazdijai – Giedrius Firantas and Matas Valiulis were in the VW Polo N5, whose speed at the end of the rally also indicated that a long transition period would not be necessary.
After the start of the LARČ season, the pace of Irmantas and Edvinas did not disappear anywhere and from the end of the first event to the end of the season, they held the leading position of the LARČ5, having secured the title in Elektrėnai. At the beginning of the season, they had a very entertaining battle with Deividas Gezevičius and Tomas Nenartavičius, who drove for a whole season this time. However, the Deividas and Tomas Ford Fiesta N5 crew switched to the LARČ1 class in the middle of the season, so the task of fighting Buivydas remained for Giedrius Firantas and Matus Valiulis. Unfortunately, Aurimas Eidžiūnas retired for several events right at the start of the season, as his Ford Fiesta N5 required lengthy repairs after a series of rollovers at the Žemaitija Rally. A far more successful season was completed this year by the Citroen C3 N5 crew of Paulius Beniušis and Kristupas Adinavičius. The pair managed to collect enough points to finish on the LARČ5 podium at the end of the year and still had the chance to catch Giedrius Firantas with Matas Valiulis. There was another change in the middle of the season – after a very difficult start to the season, Tomas Šmagarys handed over his Hyundai i20 N5 to rally rookies Rokas Markovičius and Martynas Masaitis. After taking part in several LARČ events, this crew jumped to fourth place in the LARČ5 standings, overtaking Aurimas Eidžiūnas, who returned to the LARČ at the end of the season. The LARČ1 podium in the annual results was also made up of members of the N5 family. The title was won by Linas Vaškys and Laurynas Paškevičius, who drove a Škoda Fabia N5+ for half of the season. Later, Linas’ car went to Taiwan together with Martynas Samsonas Škoda, and while the new N5 car was being assembled, Linas season ended with a different vehicle. Deividas Gezevičius, who switched to LARČ1, had to chase his classmates who had been collecting points since the beginning of the season. Towards the end of the season, a battle broke out between him and Eugenijus Sladkevičius, who was driving a Škoda Fabia N5+. In the end, D.Gezevičius took second place with a lead of 14 points.
Members of the N5 family were not only to be found on the LARČ events. This year, at least one N5 car could be seen on almost every event of the LMRČ. Estonian Jaak Tammeka returned to Lithuania at the beginning of the season, and in Plungė Darius Biesevičius was behind the wheel of his Ford Fiesta N5 for the first time in two years, which he normally rents out to others. This car even took part in the Rally Estonia, where it was driven by Karl Martin Volver. Rokas Markovičius, who bought a Hyundai i20 N5, participated very actively in the LMRČ events. He was joined by another rally newcomer Julius Masonas, who had bought a Renault Clio N5 from Vilmantas Padegimas. The latter had also taken part in the rallies held in Latvia. Latvia was also visited by the aforementioned Rokas Markovičius and Adomas Petrovas, who even won the Rally Sprint in the Elektrėnai with Darius Biesevičius’ Ford Fiesta N5.
