Somewhat unexpectedly, the Biesmo team was given the task of transporting its car to Estonia, where the European and Estonian Rally Championship will take place. The Lithuanian Ford Fiesta N5 will take part in the latter, the Rally Estonia National. It will be driven by the young Estonian crew Karl Martin Volver with Annika Sõna. Recently, Karl Martin has been competing in Latvia and Estonia with a Škoda Fabia Proto, but when the Škoda’s engine failed earlier this week, the Estonian had to find another car very quickly in order to participate in Rally Estonia. Darius Biesevičius reached was found and Lithuanian team came to Tartu very quickly. Karl Martin was even able to test the Lithuanian Ford Fiesta N5 and was very happy with the car.
Briefly about Karl Martin. The 25-year-old Estonian has been racing since 2011, so he was already behind the wheel at a very young age. He took part in many Estonian, Latvian and sometimes Lithuanian rallies with a Ford Focus, Peugeot 208 R2 and Lada Kalina NF R1 until his career path turned to Germany. There he took part in the Opel Adam Cup in 2018 with the car of the same name, where he finished third after a few victories. After that, there was a break, during which Karl Martin returned to the Baltic special stages in 2022 with the aforementioned Škoda Fabia Proto. After another break in 2023, Karl Martin is back in the Estonian Rally Championship. Lately, Egon Kaur’s former co-driver Annika Sõna has been reading the pacenotes for him. In the EMV1 class of the Estonian Championship, Karl Martin has won both events of the Otepää Talveralli and the Länsirannikon Ralli.
Almost 120 kilometers of extremely good special stages around Tartu await Karl Martin and Annika. On Friday evening, the participants of the Estonian championship will compete in a short special stage in Tartu, and the main action will take place on Saturday, where 9 special stages await them. The stages are serious – the shortest is 10 kilometers long and the longest is 21.45 km. It will be a hard and long day because there will be 118 kilometers of stage during all day. The participants in the European Rally Championship will also be competing on Sunday. In the EMV1 class, Karl Martin will compete against two rivals – Urmo Luts with a VW Polo Proto and… Ott Tänak with a Hyundai i20 N Rally1 Hybrid.
