“Perlas Go Rally Daugai” welcomed 79 crews last weekend, among which was a representative of the N5 squad. Since the problems at the Elektrėnai Rally did not allow Aurimas to cover part of the route at full speed, the man from Vilnius came up with the idea to compensate for the missing fast kilometers on the fifth event of the mini-rally around Daugai. Although this spontaneous thought forced Aurimas to find another person who will navigate the Ford Fiesta N5 on the roads of the Dzūkija region, because the regular co-driver Justas Barysas was not able to fulfill his duties. A helping hand was extended by the professor of the rally, the racer who exchanged the steering wheel for a pacenotes, and one of the organizers of the Elektrėnai rally – Žilvinas Juršys. This duo was the main contender for the victory of “Perlas Go Rally Daugai” in the overall standings of the competition.
When the competition began, everything went smoothly. The team won short stages of about three kilometers one after the other, and after half of the rally and four stages, they had gained a lead of more than half a minute. The same story was repeated in the fifth stage, but that was the end of the race for Aurimas and Žilvinas. The car stopped and did not move. After the investigation it became clear that an elementary human error was involved and the Ford Fiesta N5 did not receive enough “food” in the form of fuel, which finally brought it to a halt. Despite not finishing the rally, the crew is not too sad, because after all it was just a training session. The real action will take place in Utena in two weeks. In addition, valuable kilometers were gained, though not all, and the greatest benefit was the Žilvinas Juršys’ experience in both driving and pacenotes writing. It is likely that this experience will really help Aurimas to maintain his place in LARČ5 standings.
